Fly Fishing Engagement Session // Allison & Aaron

This fall I was thrilled to fly back to Colorado from Bend to capture some moments and make some memories to celebrate the engagement of my dear friend Allison and her fiancé Aaron.  I can not wait for their fall wedding in my favorite Colorado mountain town, Crested Butte.  It’s going to be a stunning wedding.
I met Allison several years ago (wow, how time flies) between seasons working in Antarctica, in Gothic, Colorado.  We met while both working a RMBL, a research lab in one of the most beautiful parts of Colorado.  I was delivering mail, cleaning the cabins, work center and the shower house (someday ask me about all the odd, non-glamourous  jobs I’ve had while pursuing my passion for photography.  I have some good stories to blog about.) and Allison was working in the office.  We would laugh about the troubles of the day, eat lunch together in the dining hall and I would share with her my hypochondriac fears and paranoia of contracting hantavirus.  One day Allison rescued a freshly born baby mouse from the office building and all I could see was disease!   She loves animals!  Allison is pretty incredible and though the distance has been great since we both left CB,  we have stayed in touch, sharing stories of our nomadic ways.   I was so ecstatic when Allison shared the news that she had met her match, Aaron, someone who equally shares her love for the outdoors and the state of Colorado.

Colorado scenery can’t be beat for an engagement session.

I am so grateful to have Allison as a friend and so honored to be there to document their day.   I believe by having some sort of connection or friendship with your wedding photographer, not only will you feel more comfortable (after all your photographer will be there a majority of the day), together the images will be a collaboration, clients will be more relaxed, and in turn the images will be full of genuine moments that show nothing but true emotion and joy.
The weather was perfect this October day and together Aaron, Allison and I piled into their car and took a mini-road trip towards Lake George, Colorado, destination: Eleven Mile Canyon State Park.   I had the most fun during their photo session.  These two seriously looked like they were straight out of a LL bean or Patagonia Catalog.  I love it when my couples let their style shine through and when they choose a special place to create some images.  These two had the BEST idea: fly fishing!  They love being outdoors and they love to fly fish.  I’ve got to say this was my first portrait shoot of anglers and I want to do it again!    I can think of some pretty beautiful places here in Cascades for a fishing portrait session, who wants in?  After we got some photographs of the couple in the river we captured a few last images in the most beautiful light as the sun set and we witnessed a stunning sunset.  I had such a great time hanging out with these two.  Thanks for sharing this beautiful location with me and having me photograph your love.
